POST 8 > ESSAY
If those experiences are bad doesn’t matter, because bad experiences could be helpful to grow from the adversity. If the experiences are good could be useful for obvious reasons.
Because of what I said before, I think that in New Year’s Eve is important to make a self evaluation of the good and the bad experiences. We can’t erase the bad things, or just remember the good things, because both are an indivisible part of us.
As a starter point, I think that every usual self evaluation comes with the typical subjects to evaluate: love, money, work, social part. Now the subject is about a thing that is a 50 % part of my life, even more: the academic side.
Why I said that is a big part of my life? Because my life goes around the University (sounds sad, but is totally true, at least for this year): I live in Santiago only because the University is here; I organize my life schedule according to my study schedule; etc.
When I was in second year, every third grader said to me that third grade is the most difficult year in the University.
I thought in second year that first year and second actually were difficult, so I couldn’t imagine how difficult was being in third.
The sit in was an important subject, because for that we lost a month of classes and preset assessments. When we came back to classes, some teachers had no mercy of us, and they started to evaluate and doing classes very fast.
This was exhausting, not to mention that we only had one week of vacations. Is not a correct response say that we had a month of free days, because: 1) nobody knew exactly the date of end of the sit in, so we couldn’t did plans for that month. 2) Is more exhausting 6 followed months instead 3 months separated by vacations.
In conclusion, this year was very difficult, with a lot of obstacles that I hope to pass satisfactorily (because the year doesn’t end yet).
I had lot of obligatory subjects, and they weren’t so fun, so is complicated and difficult work so hard for something that is not so fun to do (in this time I thought in quit). But in my mind was the idea of being strong and keep fighting for the idea that inspires me to study in this university: grow and become in the best that I can be.

Blog 7 Christmas
I think that the Christmas tree is optional; it depends of your taste and beliefs.
I usually enjoy Christmas time, because after all is a time for be together with your family, eat together and celebrate together. I think it’s cool because for once my family tries to be more peaceful (barely reaches that goal).
There’s some things that I don’t like, for example, the over-importance that we give to the gifts and the food, when in the beginning of this celebration, everything was humble. We usually fall in the consumerism (influenced by the media).
I think that some people doesn’t like Christmas because maybe they have bad memories of the celebration, or maybe they are more radicals about the unimportance of Christmas as we know today.
I don’t think that my attitude in Christmas time is different, because I’m always trying to be a good person (when I can).
As I said before, I think that Christmas it’s just too much commercialized, principally because of the media influence.
I think that is not an obligation give gifts, but you can give not necessarily a material gift: usually the love and care are things that everybody needs but not everybody receives.
I don’t plan to make expensive gifts because I’m poor (of money).
I don’t donate things to charity. I don’t give things to homeless people: I think this is what I have to change.

Blog 6 IMPROVING YOUR FACULTY FACILITIES
-I think that the principal things that must be improved are the classrooms, the ladies bathroom and the library.
The classrooms because in the old building, the chairs are heavily damaged (even a lot are unusable), the paint is very old, so they need a new one.
The ladies bathroom because is frankly disgusting: some w.c. doesn’t have a chair or a top; doesn’t have enough soap; doesn’t have enough toilet paper; in general is very dirty; and I think they need a implementation of dispensers of paper covers(for w.c.) and kotex for better hygiene.
The library, although is new, is very small for the amount of students that needs a space for studying. When is exams period, is impossible to find a chair there.
-I think that my firsts steps would be:
For the classrooms: I think that they need urgently a renewal of the chairs.
For the ladies bathroom: they need new w.c.s,;more cleaning from the janitors; more toilet paper and soap; and the installation of dispensers of paper covers (for w.c.) and kotex
For the library, I think that is expensive to think in a new solution, so I would use some classrooms wich they aren’t in use for the student’s who can’t find a place for study in the library.
I think that the real benefits of this improvements would be really big, because every student would use: a classroom, a bathroom, or a library, so the target of public is very wide.
Next steps after the implementation of the improvements would be, in general, give advice to the students for take care of the new things like chairs and w.c.

Blog 5: Pets
It's a dog, Labrador retriever, looks like any dog in a family commercial: is yellow. But the difference is in his eyes (they are green, just like my mother: they are similar actually, because my mother is blond like him, hahaha), and his nose is pink (so cute).
I think people keeps pets because they are a companion for life, they don’t act like humans (this includes that they cannot betray you and lie to you, between another human kind actions), and the only thing that they ask you is food, care and love (no like the humans, we are more complicated). Is the simplest relationship you can ever had.
I’m agreeing that the pets’ lovers live longer, because they give and receive more love (maybe). But in some cases this is not so true, for example the allergic/asthmatic people, and the case of people who owns fierce animals (for obvious reasons).
A fact about me: I had a pair of canaries, but I don’t like them because you can’t touch them, they are a little boring (besides, keeping them in a cage is sad), so I gave them to my cousin. I had a hamster too, it was more exciting because is more “dynamic”, her name was Michelle and she died two years ago (the hamsters doesn’t live too much)
SESSION 4 (WEEK 7) >> SUMMARY FROM A CAREER-RELATED ARTICLE FROM THE GUARDIAN
Too many children suffer in divorce courts: we need more mediation
The emotional strain of family breakdown will never be solved by lawyers alone
Sandra Davis is partner at a law firm. She carried on a research who says that the courts aren’t the best place to solve divorces (family breakdown issues). Jane Robey says that actually an alternative to the courts exits: mediation.
The courts are congested with litigants who are fighting about emotional issues which they cannot regulate (because the courts don’t attend this kind of subjects). The divorce is a big business, because a 45% of marriages end in one. “The legal aid bill of £151m quoted in the article is the tip of the iceberg: the divorce market is worth up to £4bn to the legal profession. The National Audit Office identified a potential saving of £74m if family mediation were better used.”
The critics of the mediation say that mediation doesn’t work in the best interests of children. However, in any negotiation, children are first.
Finally, Davies concludes that the best way to persuaded to the parents for try the mediation before the court, is encouraging them to focus on their children, in a environment less hostile and confrontational.

Blog 3 The statue of John Paul II in Bellavista
I even think that is a provocation for the freedom of believe, because the fact of impose a 13 mt. figure of a catholic pope, is passing over by all the non catholic persons who doesn’t have the obligation of see the statue and what it represents. In 2002, 38% of Chileans declares himself as not catholic persons, so impose that for about 6-7 million of people, is unbelievable. I said “impose” because you can’t avoid looking at it! , for the enormous size of it.
The project is going to cost 400 million of pesos, is a lot for a simple statue. Reviewing the moral part, is a lot for a statue of a catholic man who in life I’m sure would prefer to spend that money in the most needy persons.
The sponsor is the University San Sebastian, who didn’t do a public contest for the construction of the statue (the manager of the statue is brother of one of the high positions in USS). Also this project is an undercover strategy for the construction of parking places below the statue
I think –being positive- there’s NO ADVANTAGES for this project, I just can’t see how in a country in way to development, the municipality allows a statue only comparable with another dictatorial monuments like Mao, Hussein, Stalin and others.
Blog 2 TRANSANTIAGO: BEFORE AND AFTER
Another problem was the enormous contamination emanated by the old buses, now the government says that Transantiago system is more ecofriendly that the old one.
Finally, another problem was the bad condition of the old buses.
b) When the system began, it was totally collapsed because the people didn’t have information about the buses that they had to take. Also the amount of buses circulating was smaller. Now I have to say that the system is settled, the people knows about the buses, and the government put on circulation more.
c) As I said in class, I would implement air conditioned system in the subway, because in summer, in peak hours, is a living hell. I also want to implement more frequencies for the buses, because in some places you have to wait a lot for one bus.
